Planta Livre
Our Origin

From gardening to ornamental production.

A family business that grew into a national benchmark, never losing its connection to the soil.

From gardening company to ornamental plant producer

Planta Livre began as a family company focused on producing ornamental plants for the professional market. Over the years, continuous investment in infrastructure, technology and technical knowledge allowed us to expand production capacity, diversify our offer and consolidate our presence in the sector.

We currently operate two production nurseries in Portugal, supplying plants for landscaping projects, urban spaces, private gardens and green sector professionals. We maintain a strong B2B presence, working with landscape architects, gardening companies, construction firms and public entities, while also strengthening our relationship with the general public.

With the opening of consumer-facing spaces, we have grown closer to people, combining our expertise as specialist growers with a more accessible and educational approach.

Our nurseries

49 hectares · Founded in 2008

Sintra Nursery

Our main production centre, located in the Sintra region. The temperate climate is particularly suited to producing shrubs and ornamental plants in containers, yielding robust plants adapted to different environments. We combine traditional cultivation techniques with advanced technology, ensuring quality and consistency in every production.

In 2020 we opened to the public, creating a shop designed to provide a complete visitor experience, with a playground and the specialty coffee shop Olmo.

Cabeceiras de Basto Nursery

Created to expand production of trees and ornamental plants grown directly in the ground. The regional climate allows work with species adapted to greater thermal ranges, contributing to more diverse and resilient production.

This space, exclusively dedicated to production, uses cultivation techniques that promote balanced root morphology and a wider transplant window, facilitating plant adaptation across different landscaping projects.

Production process

We combine traditional agricultural knowledge with modern technology, ensuring healthy plants adapted to different planting contexts.

  1. 1

    Plant material selection

We select seeds and plants with superior characteristics to ensure high-quality reproduction.

  2. 2

    Germination and rooting

Germination takes place in climate-controlled greenhouses with LED lighting, environmental controls and strict hygiene protocols.

  3. 3

    Plant acclimatisation

Plants go through a gradual adaptation process to outdoor conditions to reduce transplant stress.

  4. 4

    Growth and development

They are transferred to larger containers or open-air fields, with ongoing pruning, nutrition and technical monitoring.

  5. 5

    Tree production

Some species are grown directly in the ground using root containment systems that ensure better quality and greater durability after transplanting.
